COMMEMORATING THE 75th VIETNAM’S WAR INVALIDS AND MARTYRS DAY
In order to improve the treatment of War Invalids and Martyrs – which faced many challenges due to the perilous situations of the Vietnamese Government at that time, as well as to create an opportunity for the people to show their filial piety and love for war invalids, at the beginning of July 1947, a meeting organised by the Political Bureau of the National Army of Vietnam proposed to choose July 27 every year as National War Invalids Day.
Since then, the Revolutionary Government in general, and President Ho Chi Minh in particular, have sent letters and gifts to visit and encourage war invalids and martyrs’ families and remind everyone to “be grateful and wholeheartedly help war invalids, martyrs’ families. It is these concerns that have contributed to improving the lives of soldiers, contributing to the great victories of the nation. After the liberation of the South and reunification of Vietnam, according to Directive 223/CT-TW dated July 8, 1975 of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee from 1975, July 27 every year officially became Vietnam’s War Invalids and Martyrs Day.
The war has far receded. Currently, on the occasion of July 27 every year, authorities at all levels and organisations regularly organise many activities to visit and give gifts to the families of war invalids and martyrs, and offer incense at the Martyrs Cemetery. Many publications and documentaries are also released; art programs are elaborately invested and organised to pay tribute to the nation’s heroes.
On the occasion of Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27, Ky Nguyen would like to send best wishes to families and individuals who have contributed to the heroic wars. Wishing everyone good health, as well as receiving meaningful gratitude and encouragement from responsible organisations and unions.
